What are the good hotels within walking distance of Rockerfeller Plaza in New York?

I want to spend Christmas and New Year’s in New York and really love to ice skate. I want to stay in a good hotel near Rockerfeller Plaza & when that’s too crowded I’ll get a taxi or train to other rinks. As I’ve not traveled there before, I’m having trouble even coming up with names of good hotels to research on the web. Any suggestions with a $350 - $600 per night budget?

For decent room if not more.

Hotels.
The omni berkshire both are around 500 night and very nice hotels.
