Paul R asked:

What are the economic (and social) implications of banning all commercial air travel globally and would the benefit to the environment outweigh the cost?

(note: this question is not about the feasability of banning all air travel)

I recently flew Lufthansa from Abuja to frankfurt but my journey was spoilt by the terrible presurre-like pain I felt in my ear towards the end if the trip. I’m now scarred of air travel as a result. Has anyone else had a similar experience? How can one possibly prevent such, cope with it when it occurs or recover quickly from it afterwards?

Now we can’t longer put our liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAG) into our carry-on (hand luggage). Of course, every restriction have its own positive and negative sides. For example, the positive side of this restriction is to protect air travel from terrorist attacks. The negative side is that we can’t freely buy liquors, parfumes, or any other LAGs before the security screening checkpoint anymore.

Beside of the examples I’ve given, what are the positive and negative sides of liquids, aerosols, and gels restrictions on air travel?

I know it is related to the pressure differences but why does the air actually travel faster? please no answers containing the ‘equal transit time’ or ‘venturi nozzel’ theories.

All the other budget air travel that I know - like pacific air, air aisa, jetstar - do not ply the Saigon-Phnom Penh route. But I think there should be one somewhere. I hope somebody can help me with this info, and how much are return flights. Thanks.

There is a debate in progress that air travel should be limited because of gas prices and the effect it has on global warming. What do you think?

I had heard that air travels faster over the top so that a void isn’t created, as the air that travels underneath has shorter to travel, but I don’t buy that. There’s nothing that forces two air molecules at the front of the wing to join each other at the back of the wing.
